In spite of the much heralded Beijing conference that set ambitious targets to transform the lives of women across the world, there are still several questions that trouble the mind and thus beg for prompt answer.
Who is an African woman? Are there any legal instruments that can rescue African women to ensure that they get protection from the state against their abuser and their accomplice? Is there really any equality? What effort are the African women making in their quest for equality? What is the relationship between gender equality and sustainable development? How empowered are the African women for a sustainable development? What strategies can be deployed towards bridging gender gap and abuse of women and girls in the society?
Of a truth, the problem of gender equality cannot be solved overnight; it has to be a bite at a time.
